The Company’s mission is to make a continuous scouting, looking for young talented artists that will be the professionals of the future, and introducing them to the readers.

Sio, Labadessa, Fraffrog, RichardHTT, Angela Vianello, Jessica Cioffi, Giulio Rincione, Marco Rincione, eriadan, Bigio, Albo and Dado are just some of the authors that have been discovered by Shockdom.

Future means innovation, too. In 1997 Shockdom started to experiment digital comics. In 2000, the Shockdom website has been launched, featuring the first Italian webcomics ever. In 2004 Shockdom became the first publishing house to publish a book from a blogger (Eriadan). In 2005, the first comics on mobile phone arrived, in collaboration with MyTv. In 2007, Open Shockdom, the first Italian blog platform completely focused on comics. In 2015, the first comics in Virtual Reality are created in collaborations with SmartComix and Oniride. InMind comes in 2018: a collection of books entirely dedicated to communication and personal growth.

Also, Shockdom has recently taken over Kasaobake and Manfont, two important publishing companies in Italy.

Collections

FUSION: collection that reunites the best of Italian authors who mix manga and occidental styles. Here we can find Alessandra Patanè, Loputyn and Angela Vianello’s work.
FUMETTI CRUDI: the “progressive” collection. Born as a self-managed collective, it gathers the most committed graphic novels. In this collection we find authors such as Marco and Giulio Rincione and Antonucci & Fabbri.
KASAOBAKE: the manga collection, that was originally conceived as an independent publishing house and has been recently acquired by Shockdom. It has both original and licensed mangas.
YUM: the collection for younger readers.
SCOTTECS MEGAZINE: the collection of Sio’s newsstand comic. A huge success, with 80000 printed copies per issue.

Manfont

Lately, ManFont and Shockdom have been among the publishing houses with the biggest growing rates in the comics field. The two societies have settle a deal in which Shockdom incorporates ManFont and the shareholders of the Turin publishing house, Manfredi Toraldo, Luca Baino, Daniel Spanò and Marco Ventura, become part of Shockdom’s team. This partnership will allow Shockdom to strengthen one of its most important editorial areas: that of the mainstream, popular comic books.

Kasaobake

Kasaobake was born as an independent publishing house in 2017, and so far it has mainly worked with manga comics made by Italian and European authors, being met with a great reception and success by the public. Producing original work organized both in series or single books, Kasaobake has gradually established itself in the panorama of the Manga made in Italy, becoming one of its points of reference. In July 2019, it became part of Shockdom, headlining its manga collection.

IN MIND

In the comics market, that is constantly changing and evolving, there is the ongoing need of improving one’s skills in terms of relationships and communication. There are many different partners and contributors a professional needs to work with: project partners, journalists, editors, promoters. To know how to display one’s strengths and how to speak and to be listened to, and to be aware of the ability of dealing with one’s own emotions, it makes a difference today.
This is why Shockdom decided to create, in 2018, a collection specifically for training and personal growth. In Mind is meant to be the point of reference for the reader’s personal growth. Some of the books are: Guida la mente (Guide your mind), Voglio i miei sogni (I want my dreams), L’anello magico – l’autostima al femminile (The Magic Ring – feminine self-esteem). Come presentarsi a un editore (How to present yourself to an editor) is about to be released.

CANE

Comics from dogs and for dogs.
But dogs faithful to the human race rather than to people. Comics for humans with a thick palate, comics for humans with a weak stomach.
Comics about sex, death, politics, religion, dealing with awful and awesome altogether. Everyday subjects.

FAITHFUL TO HUMANITY, INDEPENDENT FROM MEN

POPULAR AUTHORS

Sio

Sio is certainly Shockdom’s leading author. His magazine alone has a run print of 80000 copies per issue distributed in the stationers’ of the whole Nation. He is also one of the most popular YouTubers in Italy, and releases his comic strips on his social media accounts on a daily basis before they are published yearly on paper. All of these paper collections have been best-sellers with numerous reprints. In July 2019 he started a collaboration with the Italian channel of Cartoon Network, for which he has created animated short movies starring some of the most beloved characters of the network, in order to promote care and respect for the environment.

Labadessa

The Neapolitan artist is among the most controversial authors of the Italian comics scene. Author of hugely successful books, in less than two years Labadessa has become a viral phenomenon through his illustrations of the birdman, published for the first time on December 2015 on his Facebook page. The shares of his posts have multiplied thanks to the simplicity of the concepts expressed by the cartoons and above all thanks to the graphic synthesis that characterizes them: four colors and simple lines. His stripes talk about everyday life and the little problems that are common to all of us and that, very often, are hard to face. His comics throw us into anxieties, obsessive thoughts, the uncertainties of life, but also simply into all those normal situations that we live every day and which we hardly stop and ponder.

Angela Vianello

With Blue, Angela has broken through the boundaries of the national scene, gaining recognition in France and in Japan as well. Her most important works are the AEON series (4 issues) and BLUE (2 issues)

Loputyn

Through a drawing that is delicate and sharp at the same time, the characters that Loputyn portrays on paper are sensual and vibrant with emotion. In fact, Jessica – that’s her real name – has been breaking the hearts of thousands of fans for years now. Discovered by Shockdom, she has published Cotton Tales (2 issues), Francis and two artbooks.

Bigio

Author of the Drizzit series, the humoristic fantasy that counts tens of thousands of fans and readers. The series has reached 10 issues, but there are many spin offs born from this saga, such as “M” and “The Author”.

PROJECTS

Shockdom has always stood out for its continuous research activity. There are dozens of projects and experiments where it’s been cutting edge (Timed and Smartcomix, just to mention a couple, all projects that have tried to combine comics and new technologies). The roads started, interrupted and changed by Shockdom have been many over the years, and so it will continue. It is hard to understand what shape and formulas comics will have in the future, but Shockdom will for sure try them all.

Since 2019, Shockdom collaborates with the University of Humanistic Informatics of Pisa with the aim of developing ad hoc softwares.
